We have Wi-Fi!

Since posting about the difficulty of finding wifi in this wonderful city, I have discovered my new "office." The Hong Kong Central Library. A beautifully maintained building in Causeway Bay, the library is the perfect place for me to connect not only to the internet, but also to electricity. These people are smart.

I went for an interview at an English centre in Tsing Yi this week. Sam and I made a day of it, taking the opportunity to explore an area of HK that neither of us had been to. It's a small island in the New Territories filled mostly with high density buildings (HDBs) and a nice promenade along the water. We enjoyed watching the boats pass by and seeing the Hong Kong MTR (public rail system) speed along the bridge over the Rambler Channel.

What's new:
Bug bites. It's as if the mosquitos know I'm new here and are hazing me with their itchy attacks.

What I've learned:
I love being near the water. We found a track at Victoria Harbour which is a short walk from the apartment. It's so nice to run and smell the salt in the air. It's also fun to take the ferries to the outlying islands. Being so close also means that daily activities really do depend on the condition of the weather. This week there was a "black rainstorm warning signal," so everyone stayed indoors - not going to work until the warning was cleared.

    1. A black rainstorm warning is the highest level of rainstorm warning after amber (low) and red (middle). For our meteorologists, the weather warnings are defined here: http://www.hko.gov.hk/textonly/explain/intro.htm, (cough, cough, Elisabeth).
