Locked Out

So we've been working a ton lately, it's 100-degrees on Friday night and I'm so looking forward to just laying down in my bed. And this is the moment my key suddenly will not unlock the door to our apartment. The process of having people come check it out and go through three large rings of keys without any success finally led to them pulling off the door knob and giving us a new lock/key. Only took about 30 minutes which is amazing in Thailand.

I'm happily updating you from the comfort of my bed in the apartment with a door that I can open (for now). Happy Friday!

Bangkok Update

It's been a little while since I've posted. Things are feeling quite normal and while I totally have moments of surprise where I realize, yes, I do live in Bangkok, I'm feeling very at home. Making some great friends, finding a rhythym with work (a lot of it), finding fun places to go and delicious food to eat. Some highlights since the last post...

Our first non-bill arrived in the mail! My sweet grandma invited us to her 90th birthday celebration. Apparently it takes about 2-3 weeks to send mail back and forth... In case you were wondering how long it will take for your letter to arrive :)

Grand Opening of ABC Pathways

My first gift of artwork from a student - that's me!

Having fun during the cooking lesson with teacher Sam! Our students are awesome :)

Always delicious food. Strangely enough, I crave soup when it's a cool evening of 80-degrees.

We joined a gym! It's near work and I am SO excited about this addition to my life. Can't wait to check out the Thai boxing :)

Traditional Thai Dance

We went (last week) to a traditional Thai dance show. Our school's grand opening is this weekend and we considered this group as entertainment for the event. Because of this, the staff treated us beautifully and the show was really cool.

It was a huge performance hall with low tables - the ones where you sit cross-legged on the floor - enough for a couple hundred people. Due to the tourist nature of this venue, underneath the tables was space to dangle your legs as if at a "regular" table. A very nice adaptation, in my opinion.

Fun Day at ABC Pathways

We had a busy weekend at ABC - including our first applications for kindergarten! On Saturday, we hosted a "Fun Day" to inform parents about the school and Sam and I taught trial lessons for the kids.

On Sunday, we had an informational booth at a children's play place to talk with parents there about our school. Some of the kids I met that day had  awesome nicknames (most Thai people go by nicknames).  The names that stood out most were: Omelette, Nut, Treasure and Pooh.

Here's a picture of our "Thai language and culture" classroom. Feast your eyes, folks.
